broadcloths

Dense woolen materials

Broadcloths is the plural of broadcloth, a dense, plain-woven fabric with a smooth finish.

Originally a wide woolen cloth, broadcloth now more commonly refers to a tightly woven cotton or cotton-blend fabric used for dress shirts and formal wear: He owned several shirts in different broadcloths.

The term sometimes extends to similar fabrics in silk or synthetic fibers.
