brick up

Close with masonry

To brick up is to seal an opening by filling it with bricks: They bricked up the old doorway.

The phrase almost always describes permanently closing windows, doors, or other architectural openings.

Figuratively, to brick up can mean to wall off emotionally: He bricked up his feelings after the divorce.
