booklouse

Tiny library insect

A booklouse is a tiny wingless insect that feeds on mold, paste, and organic matter in old books and papers.

Despite the name, booklice aren't true lice and don't bite humans—they're nuisances to librarians and collectors rather than pests of people.

Also called psocids.
