body-check

Shoulder into opponent

A body-check is a defensive move in hockey and lacrosse where a player uses their body to block or knock an opponent off the puck or ball.

The contact is legal within certain rules—typically shoulder-to-shoulder or hip-to-hip.

As a verb, to body-check is to deliver such a hit: He body-checked her into the boards.

Outside sports, it describes any forceful physical block: I got body-checked by a guy rushing for the subway.
