blood brother
Oath-bound male kin
Blood brother has two related senses.
The first is a brother by birth—someone who shares both biological parents.
The second, more common sense refers to a man or boy bound to another through a ritual oath of loyalty, traditionally involving the mingling of blood from small cuts: They became blood brothers as children, swearing to protect each other for life.
The term emphasizes bonds as strong as family.
