bitch

Gripe and moan

The original meaning of bitch is an adult female dog, still used in technical contexts like breeding and dog shows.

More commonly, bitch is a vulgar term for a difficult or unpleasant woman—though between friends it can be affectionate: You bitch, I can't believe you didn't tell me!

As a verb, to bitch is to complain: Stop bitching about the weather.

A bitch can also be a complaint: My one bitch with this place is the parking.

The word appears in expressions like son of a bitch, life's a bitch, and bitch and moan.
