biofluorescence

Organisms emitting light

Biofluorescence is the ability of living organisms to absorb light at one wavelength and re-emit it at another, typically making them glow under ultraviolet or blue light.

Many marine creatures exhibit biofluorescence—certain jellyfish, corals, and fish appear to glow green, red, or orange when illuminated.

Unlike bioluminescence, which produces light through chemical reactions, biofluorescence requires an external light source to trigger the effect.
