big up

Give loud props

Big up is to praise, hype, or show respect for someone or something.

The phrase comes from Jamaican English and spread through reggae and hip-hop culture: Big up to everyone who supported the album.

It can also function as a verb: Let me big up my crew.

The tone is celebratory and communal—publicly acknowledging someone's worth or contribution.
