basecamps

Mountain staging areas

Basecamps are camps serving as starting points for expeditions, especially in mountainous terrain: Climbers rested at basecamp before attempting the summit.

The term extends to any central location from which operations proceed: The coffee shop became our basecamp for the conference.

Also spelled as two words: base camps.
