back court
Behind the midline
Back court refers to the defensive half of a playing court in basketball or tennis—the area farthest from the goal you're attacking.
In basketball, the back court also names the guard positions collectively: Their back court can shoot from anywhere.
The term contrasts with front court, the offensive end or the forwards and center.
