back-to-landers

Urban exodus settlers

Back-to-landers are people who leave urban or suburban life to pursue rural self-sufficiency—farming, homesteading, living off the land.

The term emerged from the back-to-the-land movement of the 1960s and 70s, when many young Americans rejected consumer culture for simpler agrarian lives: The valley filled up with back-to-landers growing their own food and building cabins.
