atmospheric effects
Weather visual elements
Atmospheric effects are visual phenomena caused by light interacting with air, moisture, or particles in the atmosphere—haze, fog, the reddening of sunsets, the blue of distant mountains.
In film, photography, and video games, the term refers to artificial fog, mist, or volumetric lighting used to create depth and mood: The cinematographer added atmospheric effects to make the forest feel mysterious.
