green flash
Horizon's emerald moment
A green flash is a brief optical phenomenon visible at sunrise or sunset when atmospheric conditions bend sunlight so that a green spot appears momentarily at the top edge of the sun.
The flash lasts only a second or two and requires a clear, unobstructed horizon—typically over ocean: We watched the sunset hoping to catch the green flash.
