The arithmetic average is the sum of a set of values divided by the number of values—what most people mean when they say "average." Add up the test scores and divide by the number of tests: Her arithmetic average was 87.
The qualifier "arithmetic" distinguishes it from other means like geometric or harmonic averages, but in everyday contexts it's usually just called the average or mean.
