antiphony
Alternating vocal exchange
Antiphony is a musical or vocal technique in which two groups alternate, each responding to the other.
The effect appears in religious chanting, where one side of a choir answers the other, and in call-and-response singing.
The term extends to any back-and-forth exchange: the antiphony of their argument echoed through the house.
