anchor man
Broadcast desk host
An anchor man is the principal broadcaster who presents a television or radio news program, introducing stories and providing continuity between segments.
The term originally comes from relay racing, where the anchor runs the final leg.
In broadcasting, it has largely given way to the gender-neutral anchor or anchorperson.
The anchor man signed off with his signature catchphrase.
Anchor man may also refer to the last person in a tug-of-war team or the final contestant in a quiz bowl.
