alveolitis

Inflamed air sacs

Alveolitis is inflammation of the alveoli—the tiny air sacs in the lungs where oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged.

It can result from allergic reactions to inhaled substances like mold spores or bird droppings (farmer's lung, pigeon breeder's lung) or from autoimmune conditions.

Symptoms include shortness of breath, dry cough, and fatigue.

Dental alveolitis, or dry socket, is inflammation of the tooth socket after extraction.
