airtankers
Flying fire suppressors
Airtankers are aircraft designed to drop water or fire retardant on wildfires.
They range from converted military planes to purpose-built craft, and include both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters.
During fire season, airtankers work alongside ground crews to contain blazes: Three airtankers were dispatched to the ridge fire.
