Wnt signaling
Developmental cell communication
Wnt signaling is a network of molecular pathways that cells use to communicate during embryonic development and tissue maintenance.
These pathways control cell growth, differentiation, and movement—when they malfunction, cancer often results.
The name comes from combining *wingless* (a fruit fly gene) and *Int-1* (a mouse gene), both discovered to affect the same pathway: Aberrant Wnt signaling has been implicated in colon cancer.
