Peekskill

Westchester riverside municipality

Peekskill is a city in Westchester County, New York, situated along the Hudson River about 50 miles north of New York City.

Once an industrial hub for iron foundries and manufacturing, it has evolved into a small arts-oriented community: We drove up to Peekskill for the weekend.

The 1949 Peekskill riots, where mobs attacked concertgoers at a Paul Robeson benefit, remain a notable moment in American civil rights history.
