Virginia reel
Caller-directed folk dance
A Virginia reel is a lively American folk dance performed by two facing lines of couples who execute a sequence of figures—partners meet in the middle, swing, do-si-do, and peel off down the line.
Popular at barn dances and square dances, it dates to colonial times and remains a staple of American traditional dancing: The caller announced the Virginia reel and everyone took their places.
