Vimy
1917 Canadian victory
Vimy is a town in northern France, site of a World War I battle where Canadian forces captured Vimy Ridge from German troops in April 1917.
The victory is considered a defining moment in Canadian national identity: the Vimy Memorial, the battle of Vimy Ridge.
In Canadian contexts, Vimy often stands alone to mean the battle or the ridge.
