Transjordan
Jordan's former name
Transjordan is the historical name for the territory east of the Jordan River, corresponding roughly to modern-day Jordan.
The term was used especially during the British Mandate period (1921–1946) when the region was administered as the Emirate of Transjordan: The British created Transjordan as a separate territory from Palestine.
The name literally means "across the Jordan."
