Tory Party
UK conservative faction
The Tory Party is a historical and informal name for the British Conservative Party, one of the two major political parties in the United Kingdom.
The term Tory originated in the late 17th century as a derogatory label for supporters of royal prerogative but evolved to represent traditional conservatism, free markets, and established institutions.
While the official name is the Conservative Party, British media and casual conversation frequently use Tory as shorthand: The Tories won a decisive majority in the election.
