Iron Lady

Unyielding female leader

Iron Lady is a nickname for a woman in a position of power who is seen as strong-willed, uncompromising, or tough.

The phrase became famous as the epithet for British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, bestowed by a Soviet journalist in 1976.

It has since been applied to other female leaders: Angela Merkel was sometimes called the Iron Lady of Europe.
