The Lost World
Prehistoric adventure sequel
The Lost World is a 1912 novel by Arthur Conan Doyle about an expedition to a South American plateau where dinosaurs still survive.
The title has become shorthand for any hidden place where prehistoric creatures persist: The island was a lost world, untouched by time.
Several film adaptations exist, and the phrase influenced later works about isolated ecosystems with extinct species.
