Tarsus
Ancient Cilician metropolis
Tarsus is an ancient city in southern Turkey, one of the oldest continuously inhabited settlements in the world.
It was a major center of learning in the Roman era and is best known as the birthplace of the Apostle Paul.
Paul of Tarsus appears frequently in discussions of early Christianity. (Lowercase tarsus is the anatomical term for ankle bones.)
