Taobao is a massive Chinese e-commerce platform owned by Alibaba, roughly equivalent to Amazon or eBay in the West.
The name means "searching for treasure" in Mandarin.
The site connects millions of small merchants with buyers, offering everything from electronics to clothing at competitive prices: I ordered it on Taobao.
Outside China, Taobao is associated with cheap goods and complex shipping arrangements.
