T-tail

Raised horizontal stabilizer

A T-tail is an aircraft tail configuration where the horizontal stabilizer sits atop the vertical fin, forming a T shape when viewed from the front.

This design keeps the horizontal surfaces clear of engine exhaust and wing turbulence, common on regional jets and gliders: The DC-9 and its descendants all use a T-tail layout.
