Snowden
Leaked surveillance secrets
Snowden is a surname, most notably associated with Edward Snowden, an American former intelligence contractor who in 2013 leaked classified documents revealing extensive global surveillance programs by the NSA and allied agencies.
The name has become shorthand for whistleblowing on government surveillance: a Snowden-style leak, the post-Snowden era of encryption.
