Sensei

Japanese instructor title

Sensei is a Japanese term of respect for a teacher, master, or mentor.

In English, it appears most often in martial arts contexts—students address their judo or karate instructor as sensei.

The word extends to any expert or authority figure worthy of deference: My sensei taught me that patience is the foundation of skill.
