Scarborough Fair
Traditional English song
Scarborough Fair is a traditional English ballad in which a singer asks an impossible series of tasks—make me a shirt without seams, wash it in a dry well—as conditions for reuniting with a former lover.
The song gained wide recognition through Simon & Garfunkel's 1966 recording, which wove in an antiwar countermelody.
The title refers to a medieval fair held in the Yorkshire town of Scarborough.
