Roger Ebert

Roger Ebert was an American film critic whose reviews in the Chicago Sun-Times and on television made him the most widely recognized critic in the country.

With Gene Siskel, he popularized the thumbs-up/thumbs-down rating system.

His accessible, opinionated style helped establish film criticism as mainstream entertainment journalism.

After his death in 2013, Ebert became shorthand for authoritative popular criticism: the Ebert of video games.
