Puget

Northwestern coastal sound

Puget appears almost exclusively in Puget Sound, the inlet of the Pacific Ocean in Washington State, and in place names derived from it: Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the Puget Sound region.

The sound was named for Peter Puget, a lieutenant on George Vancouver's 1792 expedition.

Outside this geographic context, the word sees virtually no use.
