Pompidou

French cultural center

Georges Pompidou (1911–1974) was a French president and prime minister known for modernizing France’s economy and infrastructure while preserving its cultural heritage.

He championed the Concorde project, expanded France’s nuclear program, and vetoed British entry into the European Economic Community to protect French agricultural interests.

His cultural policy led to the creation of the Centre Pompidou, a groundbreaking modern art museum and architectural landmark in Paris.

Pompidou’s presidency also navigated Cold War diplomacy, NATO withdrawal, and the aftermath of the May 1968 protests.

The Centre Pompidou embodies Pompidou’s vision of blending modernism with French identity.
