Pennsylvania Railroad
Historic Eastern railway
The Pennsylvania Railroad was a major American railroad company that operated from 1846 to 1968, at its peak the largest railroad by traffic and revenue in the world.
Headquartered in Philadelphia, it dominated freight and passenger rail service in the northeastern United States.
The "Pennsy," as it was known, merged with the New York Central Railroad to form Penn Central, which collapsed into bankruptcy in 1970.
The name persists in landmarks like Pennsylvania Station in New York City.
