Patronus

Conjured animal guardian

A Patronus is a protective spirit in the Harry Potter universe, conjured by the spell *Expecto Patronum* to ward off Dementors.

Each wizard's Patronus takes the form of an animal reflecting their personality or emotional bonds: Her Patronus was a silver otter.

Outside the fictional context, the word sometimes describes a personal guardian or protective symbol: Dogs are basically my Patronus.
