PDAs

Pre-smartphone digital devices

PDAs, or personal digital assistants, were handheld electronic devices popular in the 1990s and early 2000s that served as portable organizers, calendars, and note-takers.

These pocket-sized computers, like the Palm Pilot and Apple Newton, were largely supplanted by smartphones that incorporated their functions.

PDA also stands for public display of affection, referring to physical intimacy between people in public view: They were asked to tone down the PDAs at the office.
