Oak Ridge

Manhattan Project headquarters

Oak Ridge is a city in eastern Tennessee, established secretly during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project to develop the atomic bomb.

Its facilities enriched uranium for nuclear weapons.

The city remained classified until after the war and continues as a center for nuclear research and energy production: Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Oak Ridge Boys (a country music group that took its name from the city).
