Nonconformism
Protestant English dissent
Nonconformism is the practice or principle of refusing to conform to established customs, beliefs, or standards.
In British religious history, it specifically refers to Protestant churches that separated from the Church of England—Methodists, Baptists, Quakers, and others.
More broadly, nonconformism describes any deliberate departure from conventional expectations: Her nonconformism extended to everything from dress to politics.
