National Convention

Republic's founding legislature

The National Convention was the revolutionary assembly that governed France from 1792 to 1795, replacing the monarchy with a republic and overseeing the Reign of Terror.

In American politics, a national convention is the quadrennial gathering where a political party formally nominates its presidential and vice-presidential candidates: The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago this year.
