Trainspotting
Scottish heroin drama
Trainspotting is the title of Irvine Welsh's 1993 novel about heroin addicts in Edinburgh, and Danny Boyle's celebrated 1996 film adaptation.
The title's connection to actual trainspotting is oblique—characters meet in a disused railway station, and the word may suggest the addicts' aimless existence.
The film launched several careers and became iconic for its visceral portrayal of addiction: Have you seen Trainspotting? (Lowercase trainspotting is the hobby of watching trains.)
