Viacom

Paramount's former parent

Viacom is an American media conglomerate that has owned major entertainment properties including MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, and Paramount Pictures.

The company has gone through various mergers and splits, most recently combining with CBS to form Paramount Global.

In casual usage, Viacom often serves as shorthand for the corporate machinery behind popular cable television: Every channel I watched as a kid was owned by Viacom.
