Miguel de Cervantes

Miguel de Cervantes was a Spanish writer of the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, best known for *Don Quixote*, often considered the first modern novel.

The story of a delusional knight tilting at windmills has made quixotic an English word for impractical idealism.

Cervantes is to Spanish literature roughly what Shakespeare is to English.
