Rocinante

Knight's bony mount

Rocinante is the name of Don Quixote's horse in Cervantes's novel—a worn-out nag that the deluded knight imagines as a noble steed.

The name has become shorthand for any broken-down horse or vehicle cherished beyond its worth: He drove his Rocinante until the engine finally gave out.

Sometimes used affectionately for faithful but decrepit transportation.
