Mall

Enclosed store cluster

A mall is a large enclosed shopping center with many stores under one roof, typically anchored by department stores and surrounded by parking: Let's meet at the mall.

The term comes from a shaded walkway where people strolled—a sense preserved in the grassy National Mall in Washington, D.C.

Strip malls are smaller, open-air retail centers.

Mall can also verb: We malled all afternoon.
