mall cops
Shopping center guards
Mall cops are private security guards who patrol shopping malls, typically unarmed and with limited authority.
The term carries a dismissive tone, suggesting someone who takes a minor position too seriously or who lacks the qualifications for actual law enforcement: He's just a mall cop on a power trip.
The job became comedic shorthand after the 2009 film *Paul Blart: Mall Cop*.
