Lamentations

Poetic biblical mourning

Lamentations is a book of the Hebrew Bible and Christian Old Testament, traditionally attributed to the prophet Jeremiah.

It consists of poetic laments mourning the destruction of Jerusalem and its temple by Babylon in 586 BCE.

The book's mournful verses are read in Jewish liturgy on Tisha B'Av and in Christian services during Holy Week. (Lowercase lamentations means expressions of grief.)
