Mesozoic's middle chapter
The Jurassic period is the middle era of the Mesozoic, roughly 200 to 145 million years ago, when dinosaurs dominated the land.
The name comes from limestone formations in the Jura Mountains.
The term entered popular consciousness through the *Jurassic Park* franchise: The museum's Jurassic period exhibit features a complete Brachiosaurus skeleton.
