Irish Traveller

Indigenous itinerant group

Irish Travellers are a traditionally nomadic ethnic group indigenous to Ireland, with their own customs, language (Shelta or Cant), and strong family structures.

They have faced discrimination and social marginalization in Ireland and Britain.

The term distinguishes them from Romani people, though both groups are sometimes loosely called "Gypsies." Also called Travellers or, historically and often disparagingly, tinkers.
